Dominican Republic is one those rare destinations that has a choice of two coastline influenced by the caribbean sea and the atlantic ocean.

THE CARIBBEAN:

The caribbean side or south coast produce very good waves during the summer clean 1 to 3 feet hawaiian size, and during storm and hurricane season 3 to 8 feet.

Here EL CHINCHORRO, a swell without a storm.


In the capital Santo Domingo the best waves for surfing are in playa Guibia and la Boya. If you are a bodyboarder your waves are the super powerfull playa Manresa also named El Chinchorro.

From Puerto Plata to Samaná there are 217 km, and during the travel you will see miles os waves for surfing and bodyboarding, in Nagua and Rio San Juan you have one of the most powerfull waves in America named: La Punta, El Arenaso And El Broke, for experts only.

The best season for the north coast of the Dominican Republic is just winter like Hawai, and with and without storm or hurricane you can ride from 1 to 5 feet (Hawaiian size) with a clean sky and glassy wind. In the afternnon the wind turn on shore, but some time are off shore.

When we have swell from storm and huricane in the atlantic you can ride 4 to 10 feet and much bigger if you dare.

During the decades of 70 and 80 the Bodyboarding and surfing world had no knowledge of the excellent surf conditions in Dominican Republic, it was not until the mid 90's that started out pictures of waves in our country, and now in the 21 century thanks to the Internet every day more people know that the DominicanRepublic has one of the world's best waves for surfing and bodyboarding.
